Há Mar e Mar

Dance

There is Sea and Sea is the poetics of a journey with a past, a present, and a future, a path that depends on the responsibility of the travelers themselves, the choices they make, and their reverberation, which becomes quite evident. A man and a bird seek the return from a troubled journey, they seek the exit from a black hole where humanity has funneled them. But with creativity, wisdom, and survival instinct, answers are urgently sought: "There is sea and sea, there is going and returning."

“Há Mar e Mar” is a co-creation by Marta Jardim and Magnum Soares in which both create and perform in a piece that takes the form of a duet and seeks to reflect on the theme of ocean pollution. The meeting of their own languages within contemporary dance/dance-theatre and music, having joined the team of Miguel Figueiredo who created the original music for “Há Mar e Mar”, arose inspired by the catastrophic current situation of megalomaniacal accumulation of plastic in the oceans, culminating in its disintegration into microparticles that contaminate everything, reaching the fish we eat. More than seven giant islands have emerged in the oceans as a result of these last decades of negligence, and there is no prospect of stopping this advance in time. The number of seabirds that die each year from ingesting plastic is terrifying.
